The Private Eyes (1980) – Film

“The Private Eyes”

Day 18 of the 31-Days of Horror

For more information follow this link.

A couple of detectives from Scotland Yard are called in to Morley Manor to investigate after the Morleys die and the locals suspect foul play.

The lovely, haunting, stereotypically gothic backdrop with Don Knotts and Tim Conway’s signature comedic style make a spooky comedy and a light, refreshing choice for the season. Or for those who just prefer horror-lite. Fantastic performances from the entire cast. Grace Zabriskie, Bernard Fox, John Fujioka, and more, chew up the scenery and keep right up with Knotts and Conway’s antics.

Of course it has its flaws. It is a product of its time and features negative and insulting stereotypes that both masquerade as “humor” and are overt. Still, it’s an enjoyable watch and a film that I revisit periodically.
