Maren is different, she sometimes has an uncontrolable hunger. After Maren’s father abandons her, she goes in search of her mother. On her way, she meets others and learns some terrifying truths.
I went into this “cold,” as I try to do with as many movies as I can. I hadn’t read much about it nor watched any trailers. I’m not even sure I realized it was a film about cannibalism. I was pleasantly surprised that there was quite enough violence and gore to satisfy those of us who prefer that in our horror. It is a slower burn than your typical horror which balances well with a lot of substance in the story and the character development.
Both Taylor Russell (Maren) and Timothee Chalmet (Lee) are very engaging and endearing as the protagonists, but Mark Rylance (Sully), as the antagonist, is amazing. I did really enjoy Luca Guadagnino’s treatment of Susperia, so I guess I was expecting something a little more mind bending. I’ll likely revisit it.
