31 Days of Horror 2016: Movie #5
This crazy Danish short is an homage to the classic spaghetti westerns with a horror twist. About a boy, Virgil, who lives in a saloon with his jerk of a father and a bartender, who is constantly bullied by his father and a pair of tough guy cowboys. Nearby, the natives, tired of being terrorized by “The Dark Butcher,” and perform a ritual which raises the dead to exact vengeance on the Butcher. As the undead attack the saloon, people’s true nature is revealed.
Did I mention this is all done with puppets? It is. I almost passed this one by, and I’m so glad I didn’t. It’s outrageous, vulgar, and full of puppet gore. And, bonus, It has a great musical score.
