Porkchop (2010) – Film

“Porkchop”

#11 of the 31 days of horror challenge.  (These reviews will be more raw due to the nature of the challenge.)

A group of friends go out to Camp Wood for a weekend of camping and partying.  They miss the news, however, that a couple of kids have recently been murdered at the camp and end up finding out the hard way.

This indie homage to 80’s slashers is written and directed by Eamon Hardiman, who also did Vampire Whores From Outer Space.  Porkchop is definitely an improvement on the Vampire Whores, but they have a lot of room for improvement.  Still, this makes me hopeful for future films.  Porkchop 2 exists and I am very curious.

The characters were mostly stereotypical but fun.  A couple of unexpected twists added to the enjoyment, the robot was freaking brilliant.   Music and dialogue were hit and miss.  There were a ton of 80’s references throughout the film.    The gore was all practical effects and inventive.

I gave this 2 1/2 jugs of moonshine because this may deserve a revisit someday.
