It’s Alive (2008) – Film

“It’s Alive”.

#1 of this years 31 days of horror challenge. (These reviews will be more raw due to the nature of the challenge.)

Lenore is a college student with full scholarship who gets pregnant.  Toward the end of her pregnancy, she moves in with her boyfriend, Frank,  Going into premature labor due to complications with the baby and a bizarre, brutal murder following Lenore’s caesarian section, a psychologist begins following up with her only to discover the true horror that Lenore is hiding.

There is no believable chemistry among the actors, the characters neither develop nor stay true to their established basic natures.  The CG effects are not good, the only exception being one scene where  Lenore is feeding the baby and the baby’s little hand reaches over her shoulder. That was nicely creepy.  The updated screenplay attempts subtlety but succeeds at boring.  I didn’t like the fact that the baby, though it had mutations, no one, not the neonatal or pediatric care team, nor the family (aside from the young mother, who I kept hoping would end up eaten) noticed it.  Bad adaptation.

I really don’t see any redeeming qualities in this flick, except the end.  It is the dregs and drips at the bottom of the cup.
