This Rob Zombie, made-for-Netflix, reboot of the classic TV series is really quite fun. It tells the story of how Lily and Herman met, fell in love, and ended up living at the mansion at 1212 Mockingbird Lane.
A modern(ish) made for tv movie that is … quirky … and as cheesy as the source material. Honestly, it’s downright whimsical for a Zombie flick. Perky even.
Sure, Sheri Moon Zombie is no Yvonne De Carlo, but no one else would be either. I thought she did a great job of capturing the spirit of Lily Munster with her performance. Jeff Daniel Phillips, as Herman, was a harder sell for me. Not because he did a poor job with the character, but because he was written a little differently than I remembered.
The first time I watched this, when it was initially released, I was unimpressed. This second viewing, I was much more satisfied with the movie and the treatment Zombie gave it. In part, I think that the familiarity of the material and the expectation of extreme violence because of his other body of work is what caused me to not connect during my first watch. I’m glad I watched it again, though.
