5 years after the events of the Camp Crystal Lake massacre, a camp counselor training opens up. As the counselors in training explore the camp and surrounding area, some of them stumble onto the old Camp Crystal Lake, and get picked up by the local police, who try to warn them away. But of course, the young counselors don’t listen.
This is how a sequel is done. I was chatting with a friend as we watched this, and he remarked that he wasn’t a fan of killing off the survivor of the previous film at the beginning of its sequel. However, this is the movie that created that style. It set that bar. Not only that, as a slasher flick, there is a story that evolves and moves along from the first one.
I realize that in the first one, it was established that Jason had drowned, which is why Mrs. Voorhees went, well, crazy violent serial killer. In the narrative of Part 2, that is changed to Jason somehow did not drown, that he was hidden away by Mrs. Voorhees, and even watched as his mother was beheaded. Ginny (Amy Steel), a child psychologist and assistant to the camp director, gives quite a little monologue about what might have happened to young Jason.
Beautiful cinematography, great score, awesome kill scenes. What more is there to say? See it on the big screen as often as you can.
