A telling of the classic story from the perspective of Igor.
This version is kinder to Victor than the character deserves. Still, I enjoyed it. In this telling, Igor is a self-educate freak show oddity, abused by his master, when Victor discovers him. Once Victor discovers Igor’s intelligence, he facilitates Igor’s escape, and “cures” him of the distinctive hunchback that is Igor’s trademark look. Having Igor be a sort of malformed scientific genius, who is only seen as an oddity until Victor finds and “rescues” him, changes the audience’s view of both characters significantly. Seeing Victor as a savior of Igor, allows us to feel a little more sympathy for the character, though in fact, Victor is truly just as vile in either case.
What a cast! Wow! James McAvoy, Daniel Radcliff, Charles Dance, Mark Gatiss, Andrew Scott, and more!
I thought this was a well done, well thought out, well acted film.
I gave this film 2 coffees. It was entertaining, but I doubt I’ll ever feel the need to return to it.
