As Jesus works his miracles and spreads his teachings, he finds that sometimes miracles don’t work out the way he first expected.

This is a horror-comedy short from Spain.  Although most people are familiar with the Lazarus story from The Bible, this is something, um, else.  In no way is this  film intended to be taken seriously, it is a bloody good time, pure and simple.   This twist on the story is brilliantly irreverent! I could not stop laughing throughout the film.  The 2 primary characters, Jesus and Judas, are wonderful interpretations.  The make up and gore effects are so well done, mostly practical effects with a dose of CGI to give it a little oomph.  As the movie goes on it becomes more outrageous and silly, but in a good way.  The cinematography and direction are well done.  Look for action happening in the background, the inventive re-envisioning and humorous double entendres of the parables, throughout.

This film is not for everyone, but if you’re a fan of really creative, low budget, indie film, love gore, and aren’t overly burdened by religious reverence, you will love this!   I know I’ll be looking for the full length feature  based on this short “Once Upon a Time in Jerusalem.”
