A young girl, afflicted with a genetic disease in a dystopian world obsessed with genetic perfection, searches for a cure and instead finds that all her life has been built on deception.\u00a0 With the assistance of a grave robber, a blind opera singer and the machinations of the bitter, manipulative, evil owner of GeneCo,\u00a0 and an overbearing father with a terrible secret, she discovers whether or not she is bound by her genetics or if her choices will set her free.<\/p>\n

This very original goth opera hits every element that I look for in my choices of entertainment and then some, to the point where I can easily overlook the less desirable parts of the film.\u00a0 Catchy songs that, the more you watch, the more you sing along.\u00a0 The characters are multidimensional, with the filmmakers using a creative medium with which to tell their back stories.\u00a0 Each character’s story unfolds into the finale, the “Genetic Opera” where all is revealed.<\/p>\n

Though the outside world in which the story is set is a CGI dystopia, dark and oppressed.\u00a0 So much blood and gore,\u00a0 with mostly practical effects for these.\u00a0 The violence of the film is staggering, from language choices, the characters habits, hobbies, addictions, and occupations.\u00a0\u00a0 Even the more benign scenes hold a sense of restrained violence and bondage with overtones of voyeurism throughout.<\/p>\n

If you enjoy off color musicals and violent, gore filled movies, this just might be for you.\u00a0 I gave it 4 rum & cokes.
