Day 16, 17, &18 of the 2024 31-Days of Horror<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a Full Moon Features presentation. Interestingly enough, these 3 short movies follow Stuart Gordon’s classic From Beyond, and prelude his Reanimator franchise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overall, these movies have been done better (by Gordon & Yuzna). As a gateway to draw in new, younger, audiences, they’re not a bad starting point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

A Full Moon Features hour long film based on Lovecraft’s From Beyond, and apparently the sequel to the Stuart Gordon 1986 classic. It’s pretty much what one would expect from a modern Full Moon Feature. Surprisingly good effects, both CGI and practical. I actually quite enjoyed this. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this modern retelling, Crawford Tillinghast, and his friends, rebuild The Resonator after finding his father’s notes on the device. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bonus for having Michael Pare as the villain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extra Bonus for introducing, however briefly, Herbert West as a fellow Miskatonic student.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The malevolent Resonator machine continues to continues to bring monsters from beyond to pursue Crawford Tillinghast and his friends. Also, Herbert West works on early versions of his reagent serum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Josh <\/a>Cole does a surprisingly good Herbert West, clearly patterned after Jeffrey Combs version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The last entry in this modern Lovecraftian journey. Not a whole lot of surprises here, but the trip wasn’t too bad. A little too much of a feel good ending for Tillinghast for my preference. Of course, the movie leaves West exactly where he should be so he can move on to the movies we all know and love. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, I’m not clear if this was always a web series whose episodes were combined into 3 1(ish)- hour movies or if the first one originally started as a movie that turned I to a web series. It was, at one point a “TV Series” called The Resonator<\/a>, but it looks like that was released a year after the first of the 1-hour movies. Regardless, it’s better than I expected when I first noticed its existence last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
