This German, silent-era film is based on Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s classic tale.\u00a0 A wager is made between the demon, Mephisto, and an Archangel for the fate of mankind.\u00a0 Should Mephisto be able to corrupt the soul of the the alchemist, Faust, evil shall rule the Earth.\u00a0 \u00a0The story, though a tale of good vs evil, really explores doing the wrong things for the right reasons.\u00a0 \u00a0I fully appreciate the story for what it was at the time it was written, and then later filmed, it really shows how far we have grown in our societal mores.<\/p>\n

Visually, the film is haunting, and with the score, it’s almost hypnotic.\u00a0 The first 30 minutes passed and I barely blinked, it was so beautiful.\u00a0 The special effects are fantastic and hold up wonderfully.\u00a0 \u00a0This film had the highest budget for its time, and it shows.<\/p>\n

Although it drags in some areas,\u00a0 I was not expecting a nearly 2-hour epic when I chose this, but was pleasantly surprised.<\/p>\n
