I decided to kick off this year’s challenge with this film, inspired by Poe’s classic story and brought to life by the estimable talents of Bela Lugosi and Boris Karloff.\u00a0 Though this version does not hold up very well, it does have some fine and haunting scenes.\u00a0 Especially when held up to the outstanding interpretation years later which Karloff did with Vincent Price.\u00a0 \u00a0 Still, these classic films are always worth watching.\u00a0 It’s like a domino effect, you watch one, then you need to find another from the same period, and pretty soon you’ve immersed yourself in every Poe inspired film or film starring Lugosi and Karloff made in the 1930’s.\u00a0 A worthwhile way to spend time during our favorite horror themed month, indeed.<\/p>\n
