{"id":1964,"date":"2015-10-27T21:21:17","date_gmt":"2015-10-28T02:21:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intheaudience.net\/?p=1964"},"modified":"2015-10-27T21:49:20","modified_gmt":"2015-10-28T02:49:20","slug":"reaper-2000-film","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/intheaudience.net\/?p=1964","title":{"rendered":"Reaper (2000) &#8211; Film"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;Reaper&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Follow <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0203830\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_3\" target=\"_blank\">this link<\/a> for more information.<\/p>\n<p>Crime drama\/horror writer, Luke Sinclair takes a trip to a small town to work on his latest book. \u00a0However, after he arrives, he becomes a person of interest when a dead girl is found in the woods with a page of his most recent book, The Reaper, next to her. \u00a0The murder just as the page describes. \u00a0 The local sheriff and a detective who specializes in sex crimes, confer with Sinclair, they must find out who killed the girl and stop him\u00a0before he kills again.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This indie mystery\/thriller out of Canada is an entertaining, if not very solid film. \u00a0Chris Sarandon\u00a0does as\u00a0amazing a job as\u00a0Luke Sinclair as the script allows. \u00a0Vlasta Vrana is effective as the not-able-to-play-well-with-others, Sheriff Norris. \u00a0Catherine Mary Stewart, as Detective\u00a0Sonya Lehrman, brings a strong female presence, especially since\u00a0the film features such\u00a0misogynistic male characters.<\/p>\n<p>The writing is rather weak, full of plot holes, minimally developed (both story and characters), and mostly stereotypical characters. \u00a0Good pacing and a talented cast keeps this film from disaster. \u00a0Chris Sarandon&#8217;s portrayal of Luke Sinclair is pretty much the only thing that kept me in the film. \u00a0His almost casual intensity and ability to sound respectful, contemptuous, and sarcastic all at the same time is always worth seeing. \u00a0Sadly, there really isn&#8217;t much for believable sexual chemistry between Sarandon and Stewart. \u00a0They are great playing off each other before that unfortunate plot twist. \u00a0Blah.<\/p>\n<p>Although this is in the horror section, it is far more mystery\/thriller than horror. \u00a0It has a very tenuous grasp which links it to horror. \u00a0So tenuous, in fact, that it would be too big a spoiler to mention. \u00a0The plot twists just keeps twisting.<\/p>\n<p>I gave this 2 1\/2 glasses of wine. \u00a0Even with the unfortunately weak story, the movie managed to keep me fully engaged throughout. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t even swear at the screen for not being horror. \u00a0I call that and effective film.<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.intheaudience.net\/\/clipart\/glassOwine.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"41\" height=\"75\" \/><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.intheaudience.net\/\/clipart\/glassOwine.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"41\" height=\"75\" \/>1\/2<\/p>\n<div style=\"padding-bottom:20px; padding-top:10px;\" class=\"hupso-share-buttons\"><!-- Hupso Share Buttons - https:\/\/www.hupso.com\/share\/ --><a class=\"hupso_toolbar\" href=\"https:\/\/www.hupso.com\/share\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/static.hupso.com\/share\/buttons\/share-medium.png\" style=\"border:0px; padding-top: 5px; float:left;\" alt=\"Share Button\"\/><\/a><script type=\"text\/javascript\">var hupso_services_t=new Array(\"Twitter\",\"Facebook\",\"Google Plus\",\"StumbleUpon\",\"Email\");var hupso_background_t=\"#EAF4FF\";var hupso_border_t=\"#66CCFF\";var hupso_toolbar_size_t=\"medium\";var hupso_image_folder_url = \"\";var hupso_twitter_via=\"mojodawn\";var hupso_url_t=\"\";var hupso_title_t=\"Reaper%20%282000%29%20-%20Film\";<\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" src=\"http:\/\/static.hupso.com\/share\/js\/share_toolbar.js\"><\/script><!-- Hupso Share Buttons --><\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&#8220;Reaper&#8221; Follow this link for more information.
