{"id":1931,"date":"2015-10-17T20:25:16","date_gmt":"2015-10-18T01:25:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/intheaudience.net\/?p=1931"},"modified":"2015-10-17T20:35:13","modified_gmt":"2015-10-18T01:35:13","slug":"evil-to-kako-2005-film-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/intheaudience.net\/?p=1931","title":{"rendered":"Evil (To Kako) 2005 &#8211; Film*"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8220;Evil&#8221; (&#8220;To Kako&#8221;)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>*I had previously written a very brief review on this film. \u00a0I am taking this opportunity to expand on it. \u00a0The <a href=\"http:\/\/intheaudience.net\/?p=644\" target=\"_blank\">original<\/a> is still available for those interested.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For more information follow <a title=\"IMDb\" href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0813129\/?ref_=fn_al_tt_2\" target=\"_blank\">this link<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After 3\u00a0construction workers in Athens, Greece discover a cavern, something happens to them, causing them to lose their memory of exactly what happened and how they got out. \u00a0 The evil force which had infected them erupts spreads rapidly. \u00a0With the citizens of Athens turning into zombies, the survivors must band together if they are to live.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This low budget, indie film from Greece takes the zombie genre for a spin and is one of the most entertaining horror comedies I have had the privilege of seeing. \u00a0 In his first full length feature, writer\/director,\u00a0Yorgos Noussias&#8217; story is a standard zombie survival deal, but the twists and characters are innovative and vivid. \u00a0I appreciate that although they show, in a fashion, where and how the infection originated, they don&#8217;t really explain it. \u00a0They focus on the resulting destruction and how it affects the survivors. \u00a0Tense and serious where appropriate, but plenty of blatant sarcasm and physical humor, a couple of jump scares, but it&#8217;s well balanced. \u00a0Both drama and humor are great and dead on with the visual cues from the actors. \u00a0I have only seen this movie as subtitled (thank goodness for no awkward voice overs). \u00a0 The music is varied, appropriate, and so much fun. \u00a0The cinematography is beautiful, cityscapes and landscapes, dance club ambiance and zombie hordes running through the streets.<\/p>\n<p>An ensemble cast, the characters are surprisingly vivid and develop through the story. \u00a0Dimitra (Stavroula Thomopoulou), a feisty, kick-ass diva whose boyfriend was one of the construction workers to discover the mine;\u00a0Argyris (Argyris Thanasoulas), the snarky, rather pervy cab driver with a foot fetish;\u00a0Jenny (Mairi Tsoni), teenager who watched her parents deaths; Marina (Pepi Moschovakou), Jenny&#8217;s neighbor, friend and protector; Meletis (Meletis Georgiadis) nominal leader of the small group of survivors, father figure;\u00a0Lieutenant Vakirtzis (Antreas Kontopoulos), severely traumatized soldier intent on rejoining his fellow soldiers and protecting those left.<\/p>\n<p>Filled with enough blood and guts to satisfy the &#8220;gore hounds,&#8221; \u00a0all practical effects and the fight sequences are inventive.
